County attorney’s profile includes lengthy experience in area


        Prairie County Attorney Garry Bunke, who began his duties at the county office Nov. 1, said he has been working to acquaint himself. It’s a task made easier due to Bunke’s experience and his longtime Eastern Montana residency.

Born in Beach, N.D., Bunke’s family moved to Miles City in 1963. He graduated from Custer County District High School in 1967. After receiving an accounting degree from Montana State University, Bunke attended Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane, Wash. Following graduation from law school in 1975, Bunke moved to Forsyth where he practiced private law for 14 years. 
From 1989 to 2006 Bunke served as the Custer County attorney. It was during this time that he worked for the state Attorney General’s office for three years. After leaving the Custer County attorney’s office, Bunke served for five years as the regional deputy public defender in Miles City, covering southeastern Montana’s seven counties.
Bunke has four grown children.
