Student holiday programs will spread cheer and goodwill this season

From Terry Public Schools Music Dept.

The 2011 5-12th Grade Band and Choir Christmas Concert is Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011 at 7:30pm in the Ray Frank Gymnasium.  The concert will consist of 5th Grade Band, 6th Grade Band, Jr. High Band, Jr. High Choir, High School Band, and High School Choir, a French Horn solo, and a Bass Guitar solo.

The concert will start with 5th Grade Band playing “Good King Wenceslas” a Traditional English Carol featuring individual sections.  They will then play “Jolly Old St. Nicholas” a traditional Christmas Carol as a duet throughout the band.  They will then play a band arrangement of Jingle Bells arranged by Chuck Elledge.
The 6th Grade Band will take the stage with “Christmas March” by Sandy Feldstein and John O’Reilly.  They will then play “Joyeux Noël” a French Carol arranged by Chuck Elledge.  Their last piece will be “Jingle Bell Rock” arranged by Michael Sweeney.
The Jr. High Choir will be singing three pieces all accompanied by Charlotte Runner: “Go, Tell it on the Mountain” arranged by Ruth Elaine Schram, “Noel Canon” by Donald Moore, and “Jinglelin’ All the Way!” by Greg Gilpin.
Breanna Cole will then play a piece on the bass guitar.
The Jr. High Band will continue with “The Echo Carol” a Traditional German Carol arranged by Clark Tyler.  Their second piece will be “Bell Carol” arranged by Les Taylor.  They will conclude their part of the performance with “A Holly Jolly Christmas” arranged by Johnnie Vinson.
The High School Choir, accompanied by Charlotte Runner, singing “Tambourine Noel” by Gordon Young, “We Three Kings” by Andy Beck, “Born ‘Neath a Star” by Cynthia Gray, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” arranged by Kirby Shaw, and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” arranged by Audrey Snyder.
McKensie Keller will be performing “Cantique de Noel” by A. Adams on the French horn, accompanied by Lindsay Stickel.
Rounding out the program will be the High School Band, starting off with “Christmas Angels” arranged by John Edmondson.  They will then play “Hallelujah, It’s Christmas” by Jerry Williams.  This piece takes several snippets of familiar carols and intersperses it through Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus from the Messiah.  Come and see if you can guess how many different carols are included and you may win a prize.  They will end the performance with “Deck the Halls with Rock ‘N’ Roll” Arranged by Ryan Fraley.
We invite everyone to visit the stores for Terrific Tuesday shopping, then come and listen to our performances to help get into the holiday spirit.  The music is fun and familiar, and the students have been working very hard to present these pieces to the public.  Hope to see everyone there.

Elementary Christmas program planned

The Elementary Christmas Program is Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 2:30 in the Ray Frank Gymnasium.  Come one; come all to the first live performance of “The North Pole Star” by Sally K. Albrecht and Jay Althouse.  Dasher (Wyatt Wells), Dancer (Joe Mendenhall), Prancer (Kale Gierke), Vixen (Dayton Keltner), Comet (Sean Loomis), Cupid (Genna Schroeber), Donner (Mikayla Eckdahl), and Blitzen (Aaron Morast) are all performing for the judges:  Santa (Tristan Davis), Mrs. Claus (Anya Pitchford) and Stephen Cruelle (Shad Mack), and you the audience to see who will become the First North Pole Star.   Nicky Seacrest (Ann Grue) hosts this entertaining time of solos, accompanied by the Star Singers (4-6 grades).  The audience will then vote for their favorite performance to see who will be the North Pole Star and get lead the team to pull Santa’s sleigh.  The audience members will actually be voting during the “commercial break” to see who really wins the contest.  Our accountants (members of the High School Band) will be tallying up the scores and we will all eagerly await the results.
The “commercial break” is the K-3rd graders.  We are visiting all of the holidays in December from Christmas, to Kwanzaa, to Hanukkah, to Las Posadas and just basic winter songs.
Kindergarten/First Grade will be singing:  “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” by Johnny Marks, “Carol Children Carol” an Old English Carol, “Candles of Chanukah” by Roberta McLaughlin, “Jingle Bell”s by James Pierpont, and “Feliz Navidad” by Maria Mendoza.
The 2nd and 3rd Graders will be singing:  “It’s Time to get Ready for Christmas” by Emily Crocker and John Higgins, and features soloists by Loni Kortum, Kassie Smith, Rex Keltner, Casper Sackman, Adrian Stern, Harleigh Dion, Rachel Ehinger, Madison Gill, Colton Braddock and other soloists.  They will then sing “Pat-a-Pan” a French Carol Tune with English by Merrill Staton.  Their third selection is “¡Dale, dale, dale!” a Mexican Folk Song.  Their final selection will be “December Nights, December Lights” by Emily Crocker.
Then after our “commercial break” we will have the results of our audience voting and the grand finale of the “North Pole Star.”  Who will it be?  The cast can barely stand the suspense.  Come and vote for your favorite, comical character.
We hope that everyone comes to enjoy our performances and to boost their Christmas spirit and Holiday Cheer! Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend to support these young musicians.  The program is open to the public with free admittance.  Come and enjoy!
