As hunting season kicks into high gear, hunters are being asked to be mindful of fire safety precautions as they go out in what has been an abnormally dry year - excluding Wednesday morning’s rain showers.
Local outfitter Craig Schell helped with the flyer project, that provides fire safety tips. The Prairie County Sheriff’s office has been handing out the flyers, ensuring that flyers are posted throughout the county.
Tips include: Don’t stop vehicles in high grass. Carry a shovel, fire extinguisher and large water jug. Open fires are prohibited. Smoke in vehicles and use the ashtray.
Prairie County is currently in Stage 1 Fire Restriction meaning campfires and smoking in the outdoors is prohibited. If Stage II Fire Restrictions are enforced operating any internal combustion engine from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. would be prohibited.
