The long-awaited completion of the fish screen project for Buffalo Rapids District II took place last week. As local and state officials involved with the plan looked on Tuesday, the two huge structures, weighing 10 tons each, were installed at the Shirley pumping plant, about 10 miles west of Terry.
The structures will keep fish from entering into the BR canal system, but more importantly for irrigators and for BR employees maintaining the canal system, moss and other debris will be prevented from clogging the district’s pumps.
The project was a cooperative effort made possible through the efforts and funding of several federal and state agencies and was spearheaded under the direction of former BR District Manager Dave Schwarz.
