Prairie County Board of County Commissioners is accepting applications for the county sheriff seat, after the recent announcement that Sheriff Bill Klunder will be resigning his post at the end of the month.
The board will be addressing the issue at their next meeting, scheduled for Monday, Sept. 30, according to commissioner Todd Devlin.
Although Undersheriff Greg Huber would likely serve as interium sheriff, until an applicant has been selected by the board, in a recent phone interview, Huber expressed no interest in applying for the position.
The appointed sheriff would serve the remainder of the previous sheriff’s term which ends in 2014. The elected four-year seat would then go before the voters.
So far, six applications have been received. Applications must be received by the clerk and recorder’s office by Sept. 27.
