Alvina (Vena) Hoagland, age 99, of Miles City, Mont., formerly of Terry, Mont., died November 7, 1913 at Moorhead, Minnesota.
Vena was born January 14, 1914 at Olanda, Mont., daughter of August and Bertha Martin. On December 29, 1934, she and Roy Hoagland were married in Miles City. The family lived in Terry until 1941 when they moved to Tacoma, Washington where Roy was employed at Sea-Tac shipyards during WWII. In 1946, the family returned to Terry. They had four daughters and one son. Vena was employed in Terry as a bookkeeper at Farmers Union, a clerk at Reynolds market, head librarian at Prairie County Library and medical records director and medicare coordinator at Prairie Community Hospital. She and her husband retired in 1976, and they spent six winters in Arizona. She moved to Miles City in 1987.
Vena had many hobbies. She enjoyed making agate, turquoise and gold wire jewelry. She also knitted, crocheted, and made various craft items out of beads. She participated in senior citizens programs and particularly loved bridge, pinochle, and bingo.
Vena is survived by two daughters, Karen Hanson and Bonnie Meek; by her son, Gary Hoagland; by nine grandchildren, Courtney Wolff, Gina Wolff, Valerie Beretta, Troy Wolff, Tana Ban, Angie Strobel, Kelly Wolff, Kathryn Clevenger and Nicolette Eggerud; by seventeen great-grandchildren, Courtney Wolff Jr., Jennifer Wolff, Rachel Brandt, James and Daniel Petroff, Nicholas and Zeth Ban, Rachelle and Stacey Strobel, Sean Wolff, Jessica and Keely Clevenger, Caleb Hoagland, Olivia, Payton and River Eggerud and Halo Miller; by fourteen great-great grandchildren, Courtney and Conrad Wolff, Jayden and Mason Petroff, Braden, Bryson and Gracyn Brandt, Kyrssa Petroff, Madilyn, Ethan, Kirra, Keely ,Zada and Zaxx Ban.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Hoagland in 1983, by her daughters Ann Wolff in 2004 and Joan Wolff in 2011 and by her parents, three brothers and five sisters.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the family lot of the Prairie County Cemetery in Terry. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements.
