A 2 and 0 season opener is just what the Terry girls’ basketball team needed this year.
“That was nice,” said head coach Sharilyn Kortum of the weekend wins the girls earned Friday and Saturday night in Glasgow.
Adding, “The kids played really well.”
With a bit of a bumpy start that included the team’s need to grab ahold of three eighth graders to include in this year’s varsity squad — although a first for Terry Schools, its become rather common in the Class C division of play — the team needed a strong start to bolster their confidence. That’s just what they got when playing against Nashua and Frazer. The girls pulled off a formidable win Friday night against Nashua with a 52-31 win. Saturday’s game found the Terry girls finishing 17 points atop Frazer, 57-40.
Top point-earners were seniors Lexi Schlosser, Caty Morrison and Caitlin Lantis, while eighth graders Genna Schroeber and Delaney Davis also got into the mix scoring for the team during Friday night’s game.
Competition for the Terry girls should get stronger and stronger as the season plays out, Kortum said, noting Saturday night’s game in Lambert should provide good experience for the team.
“They’ve been a tough team the last few years,” Kortum said of the Lambert Lions.
The girls will also face off at home against Savage Monday night. Games begin at 4 p.m.
