Ronald (Ron) Cole, 78
Ronald (Ron) Cole, age 78, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado passed away May 9th at Rocky Mountain Assisted Living in Highlands Ranch after an eight year battle with Huntington’s disease.
Ron was born in Forsyth, Montana on December 10, 1935, the son of Harold and Iola Cole. He attended school in Forsyth and Terry, Montana. He helped his family on their ranch and loved riding horses. He was a jockey for his dad in his younger years when his dad was racing horses. In May of 1954, he graduated from Terry High School and in the fall of 1955 he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as an air traffic controller at the North American Air Defense Command. His Air Force career took him to California, Mississippi, Kodiak Island in Alaska and Colorado. He married Verna Strobel in December, 1955. After leaving the Air Force, Ron enrolled at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. He graduated with a degree in civil engineering in May, 1963. After graduation he went to work as a civil engineer for the Bureau of Land Management designing roads and dams and related engineering work. He spent most of the last part of his career with the Bureau of Land Management as the Chief, Branch of Engineering (for Colorado). He retired from the Bureau of Land Management in October, 1995. His work took him to Montana, Oregon and Colorado. Ron and Verna raised two daughters, Ronda and Stacy. He enjoyed being with family and friends, being a deacon at Bear Creek Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Lakewood, CO, keeping the family vehicles running, working on projects Verna had on the never ending “to do” list, watching sports, traveling, and watching his children and grandchildren participate in their activities.
Ron is survived by his wife, Verna; daughter, Ronda (Bart) Beisner; daughter, Stacy (Brett) Ingram; grandchildren, Amanda and Evan Beisner and Brittani and Kylee Ingram; and brothers, Dick (Louise) Cole and Mick Cole; sister-in-law, Rita Cole; sister-in-law, Virginia Stickel; sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Derald Reno; sister and brother-in-law, Vera and Lyle Sackman; brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Karen Strobel and sister-in-law Darlene Strobel, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Iola Cole; a brother, Eddie Cole; a sister and brother-in-law, Ila Mae and Ben Hereim; father and mother-in-law, Ludwig and Emma Strobel; sister and brother-in-law, Reiny and Violet Straub; nephew, Dave Straub; brother-in-law, Reuben Stickel; and brother in-law, Darwin Strobel.
