Agate hunters visit Terry

Converging upon Terry, in by some estimates in numbers that doubled the town’s population, agate hunters from across the nation met here last week to explore the area in agate hunts, sell and swap their treasured stones and enjoy evening barbecues at Murn Park. Their presence was made known simply by the sheer numbers of campers lining almost all sides of Murn Park, partially filling vacant lots in town and the droves of agate hunters gathered for evening meals and musical entertainment at the park. The Prairie County Museum board hosted a Saturday evening meal for the group gathered in Terry for the Inter-regional Rockhound Rendezvous. Business owners reported an increase in sales and some residents spotted the rockhounds taking in fair events.  Most of the visitors had left Terry by Sunday, August 3.
