School wraps up another year with community support

 By Charles Deisher
I would like to thank the community for the support that our school district has received this year.  I would also like to tie up a couple of loose ends.

Operating Levy
After most of the dust cleared from the legislature, we needed to raise about $1081 to boost the general fund up to the maximum.  The $20,751 on the last ballot was the worst case.  Again, thank you for your support of that levy.
Bolin boiler
Asbestos abatement will begin next week with the boiler replacement beginning 10 June.  The project is entirely funded; however, we are in the process of applying for grant monies.  It would be fantastic if we could complete the project without using our line of credit from Stockman’s Bank.
Water systems
Bond Drilling is scheduled to improve the well that supplies Bolin starting next week.  Netzer Hardware is scheduled to upgrade the water distribution system in the high school lobby later this summer.  Again we have a grant pending that could possibly fund those projects as well as a new well for the Grandey and High School buildings.
We have had a great school year.  Students and staff alike are looking forward to the summer.  All of the staff, except for Mrs. Stickel, have indicated their willingness to return next year.  Mrs. Stickel will be missed; I have enjoyed working with her for the past 9 years.
Ms Tyler will be teaching the combined 4th and 5th grades in the Grandey building next year.
Summer school will start 1 June and run until 7 August.  There are some exciting activities planned.
The Board of Trustees and I welcome your input and/or questions.  I can be reached at the school, 635- 5533, or at home, 635-2158.  Thank you for your concern and support.
Hospital developments
The Prairie Community Hospital Board has hired a new administrator.  All of the four finalists were very good candidates, however, Mr. Michael Bauer has accepted the job.  He and his wife Amy will be moving in and starting work around 15 June.  I am available to provide any information on that other important part of our community.
