Montana Stock Growers Association will celebrate its 125th anniversary “back where it all began” in Miles City, June 10-14. Celebratory events will include a joint anniversary party with the Miles City Club complete with a traditional pork dinner, period dress and a mustache/beard contest; a breakfast celebrating frontier photographer Evelyn Cameron and honoring 100 year-or-older working livestock ranches; the Stockmen’s Ball featuring a Barn Players performance and music by Whiskey River; a horse drawn parade down Main Street including wagon trains from across Eastern Montana; a ranch rodeo; and a street dance. There will also be a golf scramble, a variety of tours in the Miles City area and a number of fun community events!
Limited numbers of three exciting commemorative pieces of art will be auctioned off between the Miles City Club dinner on Thursday, June 11, and the Stockmen’s Ball on Friday, June 12. Eight bronzes of three long-horned steers trailing down a hill, created by Miles City sculptor Brett Badgett, will be auctioned to the highest bidders. Two bronzes are on display at the Miles City Club and First Interstate Bank in Miles City. Eight signed, framed prints of a David Graham original oil painting titled “Almost to Montana,” depicting a trail boss watching over a herd of longhorn cattle coming up the trail in the 1880s, will be available for auction. The original is on display at Riggs Camera and Gifts. Eight sterling silver belt buckles designed especially for this celebration using the MSGA 125th logo will also be auctioned. The buckles are on display in the Montana Silversmiths case at Murdoch’s stores across Montana. The Montana CattleWomen will raffle of a one-of-a kind quilt featuring 90 Montana livestock brands at the Stockmen’s Ball.
