Volunteers respond to fire west of Terry

A blaze that began near the Powder River Road exit, about seven miles west of Terry near Interstate 94, consumed approximately 50 acres of land, according to Prairie County Sheriff Bill Klunder.

“It’s believed to have been started by something thrown from a vehicle at the off ramp,” Klunder said, noting glass bottles and other debris were found near the exit used as a connecter between the Interstate and Old Highway 10.
County officials, along with volunteer firemen and neighbors, responded to the Sunday afternoon call which came in at about 12:50 pm. Several interstate travelers called 911 to report the fire.
The affected land was owned by the Kalfell Ranch.
The fire damaged two electrical poles, guardrail posts along the old highway and fence on the property.
