Prairie County ranchers are invited to attend the annual Prairie County Range Tour, September 29-30. This year’s tour will be held in conjunction with the 2009 Society for Range Management Northern Great Plains Fall Section Meeting.
The tour will begin on Tuesday, September 29, with participants meeting at 9:00 a.m. the USDA Service Center in Terry and taking a bus to view 40 year range exclosures on Cherry Creek Ranch and a prescribed red three awn burn site south of Terry. A sack lunch will be provided for tour participants, sponsored by the Prairie County Grazing District. Tuesday’s schedule will conclude with the Northern Great Plains Section Meeting at the Airport Inn in Miles City.
The tour will continue on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. at Fort Keogh in Miles City. Wednesday’s topics include managing soil health, early weaning and heifer development, water quality, grasshoppers, and feeding, efficiency and longevity. Lunch on Wednesday is sponsored by Stockman Bank in Miles City.
Other tour sponsors are Fort Keogh, Prairie County Conservation District, Soil and Water Conservation Society of Montana, and Terry Public Schools.
