Cowboy poet to perform Friday

Spending a week at Terry Schools, Cowboy poet and musical performer, TJ Casey is teaching junior high and high school students elements of poetry, western heritage and cowboy culture.
With such titles as, “The whiskers of a rattlesnake’s chin,” Casey says he offers the titles and styles of poetry to follow. From there the imaginations of students conjure up the words to reflect the nature-themed poems.

His week long visit will end with a Friday afternoon performance at the high school, where some of the students will share their poetry.
Sharing western heritage with the younger generation is an important aspect of his visit, Casey shared.
“The code of the west is a real important part of who we are here in the west,” Casey said pointing to an unwritten set of rules that center on hospitality, fair play, loyalty, and respect.
