The Dawson County High School boys and girls cross country teams had a great weekend winning the Eastern A Fall Classic, which is the divisional cross country meet. Both teams were led by the Lantis duo of Caitlin and Layne. Caitlin won the meet by a beating all other girls in the Eastern A with a very impressive 19:28 over the hilly three mile course. Layne was second on the same course also with a great time of 16:12.
If these times can be repeated by the Lantis runners next week in Helena there is no doubt they will be all-state in class A cross country.
There will be over 130 athletes in each race and only the top 15 receive the honor of all-state athlete.
Caitlin will join Melissa Lynn, Sabrina Temple, Alysse Charlesworth, Rio Frame, Jordan Donaghy, and Kayla McDonnell in the state championship race in Helena.
Layne’s running mates for the race will be Matt Keltgen, Tyler Kinn, Dillon Tennant, Amadeo Lamphier, Travis Kaufman, and Josef Hageman.
Both teams have a chance of doing well at state.
“These two Terry athletes are proving to everyone around the state their tremendous running talent,” stated DCHS cross country coach Jim Temple in an email. “I have watched the Lantis family run at road races and track meets for a few years now and I knew right away that cross country would be something at which they would excel ... I just didn’t realize how good that Caitlin and Layne would be right off the bat.”
