Twenty-two teams compete in weekend coyote calling contest


  Frigid temperatures left 22 teams collecting only 13 coyotes during the 11th annual Prairie County Sportsman Association’s coyote calling contest. The contest took place Jan 7-9.

Team members Rusty Knuths, Guy and Dave Stickney won first place with four coyotes, while John and Mark Rieger won second with 3 coyotes. Third place winners were team members Cole Idland and Levi Helm, who collected two coyotes. Bob and Sara Brown finished in fourth with one coyote, while Wade and TJ Olson rounded out the top five with a single smaller coyote.
Cole Idland’s team won the most porcupine contest with 7 collected. Mark Dolatta won the most fox collected with 1, weighing in at 16.5 pounds.
A total of 13 coyotes, 17 porcupines and 3 foxes were collected during the weekend hunt.
