The Lady Terriers experienced their only losses of the season this past weekend - ending an exciting series of games for the Terry girls at the Southern C Divisional tournament in Billings.
Placing fourth at the Southern C and finishing with a final 23-2 season record, head coach Sharilyn Kortum said she was anything but disappointed with the team’s performance.
“I’m proud of the kids,” Kortum said. “Overall I thought the kids played hard and did the best they could.”
Pointing to the equally matched teams, Kortum said tournament results could have easily gone another way.
“If we played the tournament again, we might see two different teams going,” Kortum said.
The defensively focused Terry team began the tournament with a 51-47 loss Thursday against Broadview-Lavina.
Facing off against the Lady Rockets on Friday Terry edged out the Roberts team, 52-50.
The Terriers added their second win to their Southern C Divisional showing Saturday morning against Wibaux. In their fifth season game against the Lady Longhorns, Terry pulled away with a 53-48 win.
Saturday night’s hard-fought game against Joliet ended in overtime, with the Lady Terriers falling by one point. Although the J-Hawks led throughout the first half of the game, Terry pulled out in the lead during third quarter action. In back and fourth action throughout the second half, the game went into a four-minute overtime. The J-Hawks finished on top, 52-51.
“The hardest part was being done with this group,” Kortum shared of Saturday night’s loss - pointing to the interaction between the six senior players and remaining team.
“Defense was definitely our strength and work ethic,” Kortum said. “We always worked hard.”
