Terry students earn top scores at annual math meet

Thirty Terry junior high and high school students recently participated in the Southeastern Montana Math Contest. The March 21 math meet, held in Plevna, was sponsored  by the Montana Council of Teachers of Math,

“Several of our students did very well on the individual tests,” math teacher Nancy Pehl said in an email.
THS senior student Samantha Springer won the senior scholarship test, earning her a $200 scholarship.
The math meet included seven different tests with each participant taking three of these tests, depending on their grade level.
Tyrel Huseby was a top scorer on the pot luck test. Nathan Lassle was a top scorer on the problem solving test. Alyssa Morast was the top scorer on the applied math test.
Alyssa Morast also received a gold rating overall, which requires students to earn a superior rating (top 15 percent) on all three tests.
Austin Smith, Kyle Lassle, and Nathan Lassle received an overall silver rating by earning  an honorable mention rating (15-35% of scores) on all three of their tests.
“The Terry teams did well also,” Pehl added.
The 7/8 team made up of Tyrel Huseby, Lane Stickel, Austin Kountz, Austin Smith, Halle Keltner and Kyle Lassle placed 3rd.  The 9/10 team with members Lindsay Stickel, Nathan Lassle, Paul Eayrs, Alyssa Morast and Logan Braddock tied for 2nd place.  The 11/12 team consisting of Samantha Springer, Jerett Freiboth, Zack Huber, Dani Dukart, Ashley Morast and Talon Mack placed 2nd.
