Joni Ler began her new role as the Prairie Community Hospital’s activities director in February of this year.

“I love working with the residents,” Ler shared.
Having two of her grandmothers as residents at the facility has also added to her personal desire to work at the hospital, providing fun and active events for residents there.
As activities director, Ler said her primary goal is to keep the residents involved in as many interests and activities as possible.
This month’s special events included serving root beer floats to residents, which was a great hit, Ler said.
Other recent activities have included working on Easter crafts, taking part in an early Easter egg hunt, decorating cookies and planting flowers, peppers and tomatoes.
“Next month is going to be fun,” Ler said. “We’re going to celebrate National Pickle Day, National Lost Sock Day and Memorial Day.”
She also hopes to add a regular spa day for the residents to enjoy.
Other recent events have included celebrating Fondu Day and Crock Pot Day.
Most of the residents have fun working on crafts and participating in the planned activities. Those residents who are unable to participate much due to physical limitations, have fun watching what is going on, she added.
Regular activities include Thursday’s Bingo games, and Wednesday’s music activity.
Anyone in the community with musical talents willing to share their time and talents with residents are invited to perform during the Wednesday musical activity. Performances begin at 2 p.m.
Those interested in helping with any of the activities are encouraged to call the hospital at 635-5511.
