Among damages caused by recent heavy rains throughout the county included the erosion of O’Fallon Creek’s banks. A 250 foot span of Burlington Northern Santa Fe track washed out Sunday, May 22, about a half mile north of Mildred. Crews begin hauling in rock from Forsyth last week to repair the section, according to Prairie County Sheriff Bill Klunder. Due to the wear and tear trucks were having on Highway 340, the road was closed last week on Wednesday. Large equipment was transported in Thursday morning to repair the railway, but the remainder of the 500 loads of rock have been transported by railcar, Klunder said.
The yard of Grant and Tracey Peterson was covered with flood waters last week from O’Fallon Creek. Peterson’s live outside of Mildred, in what is known locally as the Old Kranzler Place.
