Students raise $500 for peace program

A Terry High School English class raised $500 for the Pennies for Peace program.

The organization, based out of Bozeman, Mont., promotes peace through education in Pakistan and other neighboring countries. Pennies for Peace and its founder Greg Mortenson faced controversies earlier this year when a 60 Minutes news program questioned aspects of the organization.
After viewing the news segment in class and discussing their options, English teacher Paula Rein said the students decided to give funds raised to the Pennies for Peace program as originally planned, since schools had been built by the organization.
Rein said students appreciated the support shown by many in the community for their fundraising efforts.
