Old establishment torn down

  Monday afternoon a crew from John Muggli Construction of Miles City began the demolition of a building on Terry’s north end Laundre St. that once served as a popular bar and cafe. The building, currently owned by Farmers Union, had been used as a storage facility in recent years.

Buffalo Rapids district II withdraws from board

        A Dec. 13 letter drafted by Buffalo Rapids district II commissioners and presented to BR district I commissioners during last week’s regular meeting, will disband a 1959 BR Board of Control contract that unified the two districts into one irrigation project.

Terry hospital hires physician assistant

        Glendive Medical Center announces the hiring of Larry Masterson, PA-C for the Prairie Community Hospital in Terry.  

Masterson began work at PCH last week, and joins Chip Mintz, PA-C in caring for patients in Terry.

Council weighs in on garbage truck options

        Discussions regarding the condition of the town’s current garbage truck have been addressed at recent Terry Town Council meetings, including last week’s regular meeting. As the truck’s condition continues to worsen, the council is once again preparing to tackle the issue during a special meeting Wed., Jan. 20 at 6:30 p.m.

Gathering listens to details on bridge project

       About 35 county residents gathered to address concerns regarding a proposed bridge rehabilitation project set to occur on the bridge crossing the Yellowstone River north of Terry. The project, which is expected to be completed by 2012, would likely require some road closure, according to Montana Department of Transportation district administrator Ray Mengel.

Extension winter series will be Jan. 28

  The Prairie County Extension Service will host its annual MSU Extension Winter Series on Thursday, Jan. 28. The Winter Series offers an expanded agenda that includes a variety of agricultural presentations and other special interest topics to satisfy the interests of both men and women.  A supper sponsored by the Prairie County Chamber of Commerce will also be offered as a part of the program.

BR district II water users vote on split

        Buffalo Rapids district II commissioners met Monday afternoon to discuss whether the irrigation project, divided into two districts, should go their separate ways.

District II commissioner Barry Rakes suggested the idea at an earlier meeting, which met with some favorable and other not-so favorable responses.

Officials respond to accident

        It wasn’t icy conditions that caused a 2009 Chevy Tahoe to slam into a guardrail as it headed westbound on I-94. According to 21-year-old driver Tyler Eckman, it was a bag of cookies. 

Thankfully all four occupants were wearing seatbelts when the accident occurred between Terry and Fallon, resulting in a totaled vehicle but nothing worse.

Public meeting will discuss bridge work

        The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is conducting a public meeting to discuss a proposal to rehabilitate the bridge over the Yellowstone River, located approximately one mile north of Terry, Montana (reference marker 1) on Secondary Highway 253 in Prairie County.  The meeting will start at 6:00 pm on January 12, 2010 at the Prairie Community Center, 112 South Garfield in Terry.
