The boys from Terry had an outstanding showing last Saturday against the Longhorns from Wibaux. Our Terrier team came out with a 34 point victory. First quarter action was a bit slow with the boys only getting 10 points up. They came in the form of 3 pointers from Kale Gierke and Lane Stickel. Dylan McCulley tossed in 4 points as well. But 10 points was enough to have the lad after one, 10-4.
On Saturday the Lady Terriers hosted the Wibaux Lady Longhorns in what turned out to be a tough game for the Terriers. Although they worked hard, the girls were not able to put points on the board and could not contain the bigger and faster Wibaux team. The terriers got off to a slow start only scoring on 2 free throws from Katelynn Mendenhall in the first quarter. Score was 2-14.
Two more teams went down at the hands of our Terry boys. Both the Broadus Hawks and the Glendive Red Devils saw defeat after coming up against the Terriers. On Saturday the Terriers went to Broadus. The boys were hot from the beginning jumping out to an 11-6 first quarter lead. Points were put up by Dyllan McCulley, Kale Gierke, Austin Smith and a 3 pointer by Zak Gierke.
Lots of good basketball came out of the weekend for the Lady Terriers. On Thursday the girls hosted the visiting Nashua Porcupines. This game was scheduled to replace a game lost to Rosebud dropping out of the conference play. What a game it was!
In the first quarter Rachel Kane, Gracielle Cadenas and Genna Schroeber scored but the team defense was not able to contain the Porcupines and the Terriers were on the short end of the score, 8-15.
The boys basketball team from Terry had a strong showing last weekend with 2 big wins. First the Terriers beat a young Melstone team 62-28. Quarter scores for the boys were: 15-6, 27-14, 46-24 and the final of 62-28. The teams was led by big man Aaron Morast leading all scorers with 15. Close behind him was Kale Gierke with 11 followed by Lane Stickel and Zak Gierke both with 10. The Broncs got in foul trouble and sent our terriers to the line. The Lady Terriers played some good basketball last weekend but came up short in both games. On Friday the girls traveled north to visit the Broncs of Melstone. The first quarter was close as the Terriers kept Melstone in check with tough terrier defense by Rachel Kane and Graciella Cadenas shutting down the Lady Broncs ‘leading scorer, BreElle Wacker to only 1 bucket. The Lady Terriers of Terry had an exciting weekend of basketball. With 2 home games the girls had the home court advantage and put on an excellent show first facing off on Friday against the Warriors from Billings Christian and getting one in the “W” column.
Two big victories went down in the books for the Terry Boys Basketball team last weekend. First the boys beat Billings Christian 66-40 and they ended the weekend with another win over the Ekalaka Bulldogs 66-58 on Saturday.
Friday night’s game was the first after the Christmas break but you couldn’t tell the Terriers had been on vacation. They came out and lit up the nets with 3 players hitting 3 pointers. The first quarter of the game was close with a score of 15-10 the Terriers on top.
On December 18 the Terriers traveled to Wibaux for what turned out to be an awesome basketball game. Both teams came out ready to play and the first quarter went to the Terriers as they were ahead in a close one, 11-8. The 2nd quarter had insight to what would be a back and forth game for the remainder of the night and it went to the Longhorns with the score at half being Wibaux 19, Terry 17. The third quarter was all Terry as Zak Gierke came out with 6 quick baskets to put the Terriers back on top 30-25.
The Lady Terriers traveled to Wibaux to go up against one of the top ranking teams in the state in the Lady Longhorns. From the tip off the game would be tough for the Terriers. First quarter scoring was even with 5 Terrier girls on the board including Freshman Jessica Loomis with a 3. Wibaux was tough though both inside with 6’0 center Lexi Begger as well as point guard Hannah Bakken putting up 14 points between the pair. The quarter ended with Wibaux on top 24-10.
