County, economic reps examine travel conditions along Scenic View Road

A group of about 16 area economic and county representatives toured Scenic View Road on Friday, May 6. The group spent a significant amount of time looking over the large washout neighboring a portion of the road, with county road supervisor Mark Trask detailing a suggested plan to fill the gulch and prevent further future erosion.

Settlement reached on Scenic View Road

An agreement has been reached between Prairie County and Michael and Terry Karrels, allowing public access to a section of Scenic View Road that crosses property owned by the Karrels. 
A faxed copy of a Prairie County public access easement, signed by the Karrels on April 11, was received by Prairie County Attorney Becky Convery Tuesday afternoon.

Judge orders pre-trial mediation on Scenic View

Prairie County officials will take part in a court ordered mediation later this week, in an attempt to bring resolution to a three-year dispute over public access on Scenic View Road, according to Prairie County Attorney Becky Convery.
The pre-trial mediation, ordered by District Court Judge Richard Simonton, will take place Friday, March 4 in Billings.

Landowners file counterclaim for abuse of process

Michael and Terry Karrels filed a counterclaim in District Court last month for abuse of process against Prairie County commissioner Todd Devlin. The 10-page counterclaim lists Todd Devlin, individually and as a county commissioner and Prairie County as defendants.

County files complaint seeking public access to Scenic View Road

A 27-page legal brief filed by Prairie County last week in district court seeks a judgment declaring a 7-mile dirt road north of Terry a county road by virtue of prescriptive easement. Prairie County is also seeking a preliminary injunction from the court to remove a locked gate that is on the road.

Officials point out no legal access exists in to Terry Badlands

         A prickly situation may just have gotten a little pricklier, as legal access to the Terry Badlands appears to be non-existent. 
That conclusion, drawn during a nearly hour-and-a-half meeting between Prairie County Commissioners and members of the Prairie County Planning Board, led officials from both groups to weigh their options on how best to address the issue.
