Motorcycle fans meet, form board

        Members of the newly formed Prairie County Motorcycle Association met last week to finalize plans for their 2009 Arenacross event, which will be held at the fairgrounds Sunday, July 26. 

The group has met two times this year so far, according to member Tristy Schroeber. Along with the annual arenacross, the group hopes to organize other local motorcycle events as well, Schroeber said.

Wrestlers compete in national tourney

  On June 11-13 several local AAU Wrestlers traveled to Brookings, S.D., to participate in the AAU Wrestling Grand Nationals Championship Tournament, one of the nation’s oldest wrestling tournaments.

Wrestlers from 18 states and Canada were on hand to compete in the three-day tournament which consisted of Greco, Freestyle, and Folkstyle styles of wrestling.

  The Terry Roping Club’s  61st Annual July Fourth  Rodeo is rapidly approaching. Beginning with a breakfast at about 7:30 a.m., the action packed day will be host to competitions for kids and adults alike.

Area runners gather for Saturday’s badland run

The inaugural Terry Badlands Trail Run on June 27 attracted 35 runners, from competitive athletes to beginners and several families. Due to rainy weather the day before, the race could not be run on the original course, but runners and supporters alike enjoyed the opportunity to get out and enjoy the beautiful Terry badlands.

Roughrider Steer Roping draws title contenders

         Vin Fisher of Andrews, Texas finished third in the PRCA steer roping world standings a year ago ... and is second in the 2009 standings.  When asked if he was coming to the Roughrider Rodeo in Dickinson, he said, "I want to win a world title and this Tri State Series enhances my chances."  Fisher will be joined by several more of the top 15 plus other notables at the Sunday, June 28, single steer roping at the DSU/Roughrider Arena.

Terry team takes top prize at Custer ranch rodeo

         A Terry team came home with the top spot at the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame Ranch Rodeo held in Custer Saturday, June 20.

The team, consisting of Dan Harrington, Zane Dempewolf, Pat O’Neill and Sharilyn Kortum, finished with a first place win, earning a spot in the October NILE Championship Ranch Rodeo competition in Billings.

        The 2009 Custer Ranch Rodeo to benefit the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame will be held Saturday, June 20 at the Custer Arena, two miles north of Custer, Montana.

Softball games scheduled

      Terry’s A-league softball team, recently organized by Lana Hoagland, have announced their games. Games listed include: June 16 at Glendive at 7 pm, June 17 at Terry at 6 pm, June 23 at Glendive at 7 pm, June 24 at Terry at 6 pm, June 26 at Glendive at 5:30 pm, June 29 at Glendive at 7 pm and July 1 at Terry at 6 pm.

Hometown all-stars get six man win

        After reporting to Custer, Mont. on Tuesday, June 2, to prepare for the Friday night all-star game, Mike Poucher and Kyle Tusler came away not only with new friends and memories, but with the first place trophy.

This year’s 13th annual six man all-star game was played Friday night under the lights in Custer, Mont. at 7:30 p.m.
